This is a full cardiac assessment with one of our experienced cardiologists. Identifying risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, is key in preventing cardiovascular disease. Completing the steps in a cardiac assessment allows our cardiologist to identify the presence of these risk factors and other cardiac conditions, such as a heart murmur. If we identify any abnormalities, we may order further medical tests in order to provide treatment and preventative care for the cardiovascular system.
Firstly, you’ll be asked about your cardiac history. Such things as any previous heart issues or heart issues in your family. We’ll also talk about your lifestyle and other factors such as related illnesses. Secondly, we’ll measure your vital signs and talk about any health complaints you may have. Lastly, we’ll listen to your heart and begin looking for abnormalities by palpation (touching).
If this is your first visit to our practice, it is advisable for you to bring any relevant history or previous test results along with all your current medications or a complete list of your medications. Following your consultation with the cardiologist, it may be necessary to have further tests or investigations performed or scheduled.
