Broadly, pacemakers, defibrillators and biventricular devices all work to maintain a regular heart beat with patients who suffer from arrhythmia. These discreet devices are implanted under the skin on the chest. They work by creating electrical impulses that aim to maintain a healthy heart beat.
These devices can be checked at Coffs Cardiology by our trained staff. Before you arrive, be sure to know the brand of the pacemaker or defibrillator you have had inserted and the date of insertion. At this stage, Coffs Cardiology is able to check Medtronic, Boston Scientific/Guidant, St Jude, and Biotronik devices.
We regularly host Pacemaker and Defibrillator Clinics undertaken by specialist staff from the device companies. You can expect general care advice for your device, what to look out for in the rare case of malfunction and guidance on lifestyle changes you may need to consider. Specialist staff from Medtronic, Boston Scientific/Guidant, St Jude, and Biotronik all run clinics.
